June 2012 - Parade of Parrots

By: Linda Posner, Sunday June 24, 2012

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 was the YRPC'S first ever "parade of parrots" event.

Jane Gillespie of Homestead Hatchery treated us to a casual and very informative evening. Jane is a very experienced breeder, bird keeper and speaker.

All sorts of species of parrots were represented that evening. We learned about many parrots from the small Parrotlets to the large Moluccan Cockatoo. Jane spoke about each bird, individually, giving us great information.

Each parrot parent who presented their parrot was given a ticket for a chance to win a great door prize.

Before the parrot presentations, some of us were able to view the hand feeding of Jane's baby Meyer's Parrots.

Our buffet table was open for only a loonie and our raffle table had some great bird toys on it.

Thank you to all the parrots who were in our parrot parade and thank you to their parents who entered them and a very special thank you to Jane for being our guest speaker. Jane's love of birds is very evident and I hope and I think that we all came away from the meeting being able to add more to our bird knowledge.

It was certainly a fun event.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer. We will resume our meetings in September!.
